i have a Dell XPS 420 ( bought 2008 )loaded with both vista 64bit & windows 7 64bit …
installed the card into a PCIe x8 slot .. turned on computer and installed software on each OS( USB3 & eSata drivers). both USB3 & eSata works ..
using the e-Sata connections with Cables To Go 13423 Serial ATA to External Serial ATA Dual Port Adapter (Nickel)for external eSata drives …
does NOT hang up on OS Boot when external eSata drives are connected .. i can hot plug in/out the external eSata drives …
the Dell 420 also has one external eSata connection …
before i was using the Cables to Go external serial ATA connected directly to MB = if no drive was connected it would stop boot up and i would have to hit F1 to continue boot ..also when connected directly to MB you can NOT hot plug in/out drives ..
for my use = having hot plug in/out eSata drives is GREAT & the USB 3 is a extra …
easy install ..no problems here …
Aug 28th .. on my computer you cannot connect 2 external raid units to the Asus U3S6 eSata connections = only one unit will show up in the OS … both units do show up in Bios during boot but once OS is running only one unit accessable .. if you unplug the unit that is in the OS then several seconds later the other unit will pop up and be ready to use … you can connect one raid unit and a single drive unit to the eStat connections … don’t know if this is normal procedure or just something about my MB/computer ??

Purchased for the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports. Excellent performance and the price of the board at Amazon is less than the price of comparable USB-only boards. So you get the 6GB/s SATA ports (with cables) thrown in for free!
Note that you must use a minimum of an PCIe X4 slot for the board to perform as advertised. I have mine in an X16 slot because that is all that is available on this machine.
Don’t wait to upgrade. With this you get essentially the performance of eSATA that is also hot-pluggable.
Incompatible With Alot Of Motherboards – K. Sampson – CO
Tried using with msi p6n-sli platinum and was incompatible would cause my computer not to boot would just sit at post screen, have read many reviews on this and alot of people are having the same compatibility issues with many different motherboards.

Works as advertised on a motherboard not in compatibility list. USB very fast compared to 2.0 and sata quick as well, will be much faster in 4x slot I’m sure as I have it in 1x slot.
